KONY 2012

Does anyone knows what's happening in Uganda? Does anyone care? Because I realize that people never care bout this KONY. When the 1st time i'm watching this video, i keep asking my self  What's with Kony 2012? See all these annoying posts on YouTube saying Kony 2012. Why the sudden burst of this? Half the people seem to know barely anything about it especially the fact that it's been going on for years...

Actually it's a new idea to try and stop this person, after it's been going on for years, they are finally banding together as one to make a difference by use of social media. I wouldn't refer to it as annoying, but I would call the people that who don't have the 2 seconds or sense or compassion to share the video.

The campaign reflects on a person named Joseph Kony who became notorious because of the horrible things he did, like abducting kids and using them as child soldiers to kill their parents and families. He also kidnaps girls and young women to use them as sex slaves. Since he hasn't been in Uganda (his home country) for over 5 years, a campaign called "Invisible Children" is doing everything to make Kony more famous so that everyone will know him and his infamous ways. They posted a video which soon became viral, and that's the reason why users are posting things about Kony. They also want the US and other countries to be aware so that they can arrest him.

From my opinion people are just finding out about it and feeling bad that they didn't know or do anything to stop it before, so now that they know they are trying to help by making people aware. A little late, but better than never.

The campaign was absolutely successful in raising awareness as you can see they got 923K people like in FB page - but has that translated into action?

Unlike other people's movements, this one has a clear agenda. It have an objective and it's sucessfully working towards it. When jounos label supporters as "lazy" for doing very little behind their keyboards then they have clearly missed the point. The exact point is that it takes very little to instigate change. The Invisible Children organisation are not offering a solution to the problem... they are offering a first step towards one. This is the beauty of social networking. Skepticism and criticism about a genunely worthy cause is pathetic and dissapointing.
